Sin City is foodie heaven

VEGAS! Winter has been ok around Utah, we’ve been skiing quite a few times this year and enjoying it. We have a cruise vacation coming up in March, but, we’re feeling antsy for a getaway so we booked a quick 48-hour “foodcation” to Sin City. We love to go places, stay in nice hotels, and… most of all we LOVE to eat delicious food from all over the world and there aren’t many places that offer as much as Las Vegas. It’s a real foodie destination. Nothing is off limits here and there is nothing you can’t get!

Even @DavidChang says, “Vegas is the BEST eating city in America, Vegas has everything!”

Being in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas is pretty easy and cheap for us to get to, and for just a few hundred bucks we can fly down to Sin City in less than an hour. So why not?! We flew down on Sunday afternoon and came back Tuesday night, and the “foodcation” was a success!

We have a pretty long ongoing list of places we want to eat in Vegas and we’re continually adding to it. I thought we would make it to more than this, but the food was good and we were stuffed! Here’s everywhere we made it to over our two-day trip:

  1. Sushi Hiroyoshi
  2. Palace Station Oyster Bar
  3. Joe’s Seafood
  4. Rock N’ Potato

Sushi Hiroyoshi

We got into Vegas about 5pm and our first reservation was for 7pm at Sushi Hiroyoshi, so we had some time to check in, get settled and then hop in an Uber and get to the restaurant. Sushi Hiroyoshi is NOT on the strip, so it’s not walkable if you’re staying on the strip. Less than 10 minute ride from the central strip area though, so not far.

When we arrived, it didn’t seem busy at all. But, it also didn’t seem like you could get a table without having a reservation as we watch a few different couples get turned away. They have an Omakase offering which sounded good, but we opted for the regular sushi menu and we weren’t disappointed one bit! No rolls, only sashimi. Different cuts of tuna mostly and a few others mixed in. Everything we had was phenomenal! Seriously, this spot doesn’t look like much, but they are kicking out some really good fish!

We finished it off with a slice of matcha cheese cake and it was surprisingly good. We really filled up on the sushi so any dessert spot we were thinking about after dinner wasn’t happening lol. So we headed back to our hotel for a couple rounds of craps and off to bed.

Palace Station Oyster Bar

This was the spot on our itinerary we were most excited about. We found tons of good content online about the Oyster Bar, all of which said there is ALWAYS a line at this place – 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. We showed up here at almost 11am on Monday morning and to our surprise, we walked right in and sat down at the bar. The bar server was even surprised and said their typical wait is not usually less than 30 minutes ever, but usually it’s over an hour. We lucked out!

It’s literally a bar in the middle of the Palace Station Casino, so there are only 12 or so seats. The Pan Roast was what we were after, and the server confirmed – “GET THE PAN ROAST!” We got the combo (Lobster, Crab & Shrimp) and also ordered some New England clam chowder and a dozen oysters to get us started. The clam chowder was so delicious and really full of clams! Was just going to try a little bit, but I finished the entire small bowl. The daily special oysters were really nice, briny, full of flavor and delicious. The other half we got regular oysters and they weren’t as good.

The Pan Roast was out of this world GOOD! They serve it with a small bowl of rice and it’s almost like a curry, but it’s tomato based. There was so much lobster and crab in it and it was melt in your mouth delicious. We ordered spice level 10 so it was also really spicy, but it was perfect for us. They said if you like habanero spice go with level 10.

The Pan Roast is hands down one of the best things we’ve ever eaten in Vegas! We both agreed we’d be coming back to eat here again. After our early lunch, we headed back over to the strip and decided to do some walking around to try and walk off a little bit of lunch and then grab a nap lol. We were food coma stuffed – perfect!

Joe’s Seafood

Joe’s is pretty popular, super highly rated on all review platforms and it’s on The Strip – so, it’s gonna be busy! We made a reservation, all they had left was 8:30pm. When we showed up there at 6:30 and asked if they could get us in early, we were surprised – they were able to seat us right away in the lounge area. Score, we’ll take it! W

We came here for the crab legs, so as soon as we were seated we ordered the King Crab Special which is $199.95 for 1.5 lbs of King Crab. Sounds expensive, right? It is lol.

The crab legs were amazing, melt in your mouth tasty. They’re served either hot or cold, we got hot – who the hell eats cold king crab?! Butter is standard. Sooooooo good. We were still a little full from our early lunch so we couldn’t have actually eaten much more than a pound and a half of crab legs anyway, it was perfect. BUT, they showed us their dessert menu and told us they’re well known for their pies. So, we had to try some pie! We wanted two different kinds and they said no problem, we can do a half slice of each!

The Key Lime Pie was amazing. Really, one of the best Key Lime Pies I’ve ever had outside of Florida

Rock N’ Potato

We found this random, uniquely named place on Instagram or TikTok? Another place we were really excited to hit. We didn’t realize it until we arrived, but it’s actually in a food court.

We were early, maybe around 11 am or so and it seemed like they had just opened. Hardly anyone was there so zero wait. Fantastic service, super nice people. They thanked us several times for coming to their restaurant and supporting them.

I ordered the Fleetwood MacDaddy! I had been seeing this online and had to have it. It’s a large baked potato that’s deep fried, opened up and then a layer of lobster mac and cheese, followed by some lump crab and finally topped off with a lobster tail. As good as it sounds, I wasn’t a big fan of the potato skin. But, every other part of this thing was amazing. Absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked lobster, crab and mac. I wish there was a little more mac and cheese though, it was so good.

Nina ordered the birria tacos which were supposed to be crazy good as well. She thought they were ok and weren’t anything crazy good. The MacDaddy is where it’s at!

That’s a wrap! The “Sin City Foodcation” was a success for sure. It was a quick 48 hrs. Already planning our next Foodcation to Vegas – anywhere that you love that should be on our list? Please let me know! I want to try all the food!
