We finally made it to this middle-of-nowhere place, Leslie Gulch. I’ve wanted to check it out for quite a while, but it’s in an odd spot outside of Boise, Idaho, and it’s not on the way to anything – except for the middle of nowhere. It’s about an hour outside of Boise. It’s actually in Oregon.

What a crazy landscape! I lived in Boise for a while and never even knew this place existed.

Flying my DJI Drone

I’ve had this DJI Mini Pro 3 for quite a while, but I haven’t used it as much as I was hoping I would. But, I’m finally getting some experience with it and got it out in Leslie Gulch, really cool to shoot some footage with this thing. I only crashed it once! It was flying sideways and ran into the hillside. Unfortunately, this model does not have side obstacle avoidance. Only front and back. The new Mini Pro 4 does have side avoidance as well, but I’ll stick with the 3 until it crashes and I can’t find it.

Exploring Leslie Gulch

Once you turn off the paved highway, you’re on a dirt road for 12 or so miles before arriving at Leslie Gulch. There’s a sign for it just off the side of the road. It’s just a dirt road through a pretty canyon, nowhere really to get lost. But, be aware there isn’t a cell signal out here for quite a ways. So, have the basics with you and be prepared. There was one dirt road that split off but we stayed on the main road and made one drive through to the other side and then came back through. Stopped along the way to shoot some footage with the drone.

I also brought my Sony A7iii for the first time in a long time and grabbed a few shots, two of my favorites are below. I’m so used to just using my iPhone camera, I rarely pack my Sony with me anymore. I’m making it a goal in 2024 to shoot more with my Sony.
