2 weeks of Thailand, 2 weeks of bliss

Finally taking some time to write a bit and share some photos from our epic trip to Thailand. It’s been 6 years since I’ve been back to Thailand and that’s too damn long! I’ve missed it… the people, the food, the smells… the daily life. I should have spent more time writing during the trip or right after, I’d have a lot more detail to add. But, here we are… This will more or less be a share of all the beautiful photos I capture on our trip

We got into Bangkok on Friday night and after a very long trip, we were ready to get some sleep. But not before a quick stop at 7-Eleven!

Gooooooood morning Bangkok!

Day 1 Bangkok – Or Tor Kor Market

We woke up early on Saturday morning and were anxious to get out and get some morning food to get our day going. Just a few minutes away from us was the Or Tor Kor Market, which is one of our favorite markets in Bangkok. Started my day with some Thai Tea, Moo Ping and some Mango Sticky Rice. An unforgettable breakfast, so delicious.

After the market, we got back to our place and lounged around a bit, ate some more mango sticky rice and caught up with family. Since it was Saturday and we were staying in the Chatuchak District, we hit the Chatuchak Weekend Market for some afternoon shopping and more snacks.

Bangkok Weather in January

If you can visit Thailand in January, do that. The weather is absolutely perfect. So perfect. Cool to warm every day and we hardly broke a sweat during our 2+ weeks in Thailand.

The Grand Palace

The Grand Palace is always on our itinerary when visiting Thailand. It’s a beautiful place to get some great photos and this was the first trip I’ve taken since I got my Sony 35mm 1.4 GM lens so I was anxious to visit all the pretty spots to take some photos, and the lens did not disappoint.

Dinner with the fam

We got out with the whole family to Banthat Thong for some dinner. Banthat Thong is a newer foodie neighborhood to Bangkok and there are so many great spots for food here. We ate at a restaurant and then browsed the streets for dessert. I don’t remember what I had for dinner, but I do remember I had some delicious Durian Ice Cream for dessert. We loved this area so much! Banthat Thong was full of food spots, weather on the street or sit down restaurants – there was something for everyone.

Seeing new temples

There are so many beautiful temples in Bangkok to see. I wanted to visit a few that I hadn’t seen before and ended up coming to Wat Benchamabophit. This temple is made entirely of Carrara marble imported from Italy. Really beautiful place, quite and surprisingly not too many people.

The Ancient City

I’ve seen photos of The Ancient City quite a few times and always wanted to visit. We finally made time to go check it out. It’s about an hour outside of Bangkok. Beautiful place and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a huge outdoor museum that’s in the shape of Thailand and it’s 315 acres! They have little shuttle buses to drive groups around, but we found out when we got there we could pay 500฿ and we could drive our vehicle in.

Chinatown Bangkok

Chinatown in Bangkok is one of our absolute favorite places for street food. The options are endless, the food is delicious and Chinatown is such a vibe. We came here for the crispy pork and rice. It’s the best in Bangkok (so Nina says anyways). It’s phenomenal. So damn good! We went to Chinatown multiple times, there’s just some things here you can’t get anywhere else in the city – or not as good anywhere else. Chinatown belongs on every Bangkok trip itinerary.

Road Trip Outside of Bangkok

Nina’s grandmom’s house is located 60-90 minutes outside of Bangkok on a 10-15 acre farm. It’s such a cool and relaxing place to come and visit. A couple of the aunts still live out here on the property enjoying the quite life. They lease the land to farmers who grow coconuts, mangos, Thai chilis, dragonfruit, and a few other fruits. I was going to get some good drone photos of the farm from above, but since I crashed it a few days earlier I wasn’t able to.

Chiang Mai

We took a quick trip to Chiang Mai. One of the parts of Thailand I love most. Food, culture, mountains… It’s a quick, easy, and cheap flight to visit the northern part of Thailand, and I really wanted to visit Chiang Mai, I love it up here in the mountains. We spent about 24 hours in Chiang Mai and we ate the best food Chiang Mai has to offer, caught up with some of our favorite tigers and met up with a friend and my Kru (teacher) for learning to speak Thai.

We came back to Bangkok for a few more days before taking off to Japan. Our last few days mostly consisted of last-minute shopping and stuffing our face with all the delicious foods we’ll be missing out on until next time.

Thank you to our good friend, personal tour guide and chauffeur, P Ae. She drove us all around Bangkok and Thailand. We always appreciate spending time with you, come see us soon!

Goodbye Thailand

Until next time, Sawadee Krup! Full family send-off at BKK.

We’re heading back to Bangkok later this year, and I promise I’ll be better about keeping up with our day-to-day and pictures next time. It’s hard to come back a few months later and give the details about a trip!
